Glendo City Council will push for the Capitol One Tax
The Shadow

Hello Glendo!!

It seems I have been accused of only being against things. Well just to prove my heart [yes I do have one] is in the right place I have an idea that we should all be able to work together on!!

The Capitol One project appears to be a win-win for us and for the entire county. The problem is that most of the people in the county don’t seem to know what it’s all about or are not interested in passing another tax. So the question then becomes: how do we get this information out to the rest of Platte County?

There was talk at the last candidate's meeting about going all out to get it passed. Now that the election is over will we be seeing a plan on how this will happen?

It would seem to me that we must get on this quickly if we intend to get it passed. Could it be time for the ruling party to reach out to the ruled party for some help with this? It may be that people in the other towns in Platte would rather talk to the ruled people than the ruling party who always seem to have their hand in our pockets.

Here is what this layperson knows about the project. This post is only to begin the idea process and gather in people that would like to help, be that with personal effort or just ideas.

Here’s the short version of the Capitol One project as I understand it.

It is a 1% sales tax. Each town in the county must come up with a project and have all the facts and costs before they can get it on the ballot.

"Every town in the county must vote yes for it to pass. If just one town votes "NO" the entire issue is dead."

If it passes, each town gets the money they asked for but are only allowed to use it on the stated projects. Once they have collected enough money to pay for the project the tax comes off. Should they want to begin another project they have to go thru the whole process again. It sounds sort of “stupid” but there are those out there that can screw up a free meal.

Last time Wheatland voted against it because they had no project. This time every town has a project. Guernsey wants a new swimming pool because theirs is almost a health hazard but the seniors think it’s a bad idea and if they vote against it we are all sunk. I think if we hit hard we can explain it to all but it will take a lot of networking by people that are able to communicate their ideas. Our new council people say they will go all out for it but I have my doubts.

Should you have any ideas how we could get this out there let me know!

What we need is information about the other town’s projects, what they are, who supports them & why, who opposes them & why. Everyone knows someone in those towns. It’s time to get on the phone and begin collecting information. There needs to be a body of people in each town collecting this information and putting together a workable plan to get it passed. Read the editorial in Sunday's Star-Tribune for suggestions.

In order for this to work there has to be people coming together that may disagree but are able to work thru it for the betterment of the town.

OK that’s a starting point. Let the ideas and comments begin!!!

Sick of being harrassed by the new cop:
Who hired our town cop?  Why does he pull everyone over for such stupid reasons, and is it legal for him to lie to people and tell them he pulled them over for a light being out when it's not?  Who can we talk to to get rid of him?

Bill, can you tell us what projects Glendo might want done? Also, who can tell people about other towns projects? Last time around Wheatland said no because they had no projects that needed done. Will that be true again?

a suggestion:
The first thing to do would be to get input from people on what these projects should be. The Cheyenne one didn't make it because it was a bad project I heard, a rec place. If the people knew the projects that would help. Shadow can you tell us that, or Bill or someone who knows the projects? When is the vote and how are we supposed to know about the topics? I hope it'll be on wheaterville shadow, please keep us in the know, or you Bill, someone on wheaterville please.

Shaddow,
You have it pretty close on understanding the1% capital facilities tax.  In fact all voters in Platte county will get to vote yay or nay on August 19th.  If it passes, each town will get their project.
I attended a meeting on the 14th at the Wheatland library talking to people who want this tax to succeed.  We all aggree that we can use all the help we can get.  Thank you Shaddow for showing your support.
If anyone has any ideas to promote this, please email me with your comments at billkrist@hotmail.com
Thanks again,  Bill Krist
